Foundation Is Everything
When we consider a horse's foundation, too often we process it too fast, leave out areas, or don't know what areas are crucial to a well balanced, willing, happy horse. "Slow is Fast", is a great saying, but few embrace it. "Time is Money" is a saying that more people feel they need to embrace.
Slow is fast
Approach slow and methodically with your horse and have a plan. This will insure you have covered all areas of his education. Not only will your horse's physical needs be met, but his mental and emotional needs as well.
Time is Money
Approach a horse with a time factor, encourages you to push them through thresholds, miss crucial steps in the education process and instead of giving your horse an opinion, it's faster to have them obedient, and not speak. The horse may feel the intensity of the rush to get the job done. Learning is pressure, now consider a time factor attached.
Approach Mindful
Whether it's a young colt starting with his education, a horse that has trust issues, or a horse that has respect issues, approach mindful. Being mindful is about watching for subtle changes, good or not so good, that gives us an advantage to know what to do next.
Digest a Thought
During the learning process, on-line, liberty, or in the saddle, a horse appreciates time to think and regroup his emotions. Wait for a horse to digest a thought, (licking and chewing or yawning) before asking for a new request or repeat of the exercise. It's the release of adrenline through the licking, chewing and yawning that helps your horse relax and enjoy the process. With a clearer head he now may prepare for the next task at hand.
A Blooming Relationship
Invite slow is fast into your foundation training, and a partnership with bloom. This partnership will then flower into a relationship of trust and connection. It's the trust and connection that helps sky rocket you forward towards your goal.
The Icing on The Cake
Have you ever wanted to eat just the icing on a cake? It is indeed the best part, however, if we eat only the icing, most of us won't feel great. There's a reason why a cake has both the base and the icing. They go together. Think of your foundation training as the cake and the icing as the discipline. When you make your cake, put quality ingredients in the mix and don't forget any of the ingredients or you may find your cake galloping into a flop.

A clinic, private, or semi private lesson is the path for a horse's foundation. Go to Clinic's where you will find a break down of what Sandy teaches for foundaiton training. If you have questions contact Sandy direct. The format for Foundation training is simple and straight forward, however, this doesn't make learning easy. Allow Sandy to help you get started, or help with problems that arise. Be part of the process of helping your horse be the best he can be.
